Every now and then you hear an old old song from the past.. you know the ones, they bring memories flying back in an instant, that warm feeling of happy nostalgia, and you almost always find yourself singing all or part of the song out loud. It’s even better when you’re with a group of friends and everyone remembers the song at the same time, followed by lots of sweeping hand actions, emotional lip-syncing and body sways. Not that it happens ALL the time, but it did happen tonight at dinner with my uni girls! If you ask the chef at http://thericeden.com.au/ he will tell you about how this group of four girls basically sang through dinner and even broke out in a mini performance mid-order (in between the barramundi and the bok choy). What can I say, the soundtrack of the night was pretty amazing and really, who could resist 90’s hits from Westlife, The Bangles and Celine Dion, just to name a few. We even spotted a guy serenade his girlfriend from across the table with a Backstreet Boys rendition, which we thought was adorable (she had her head in her hands and was laughing, but that’s not to say she didn’t enjoy it either!). Music definitely adds a special something to every setting and creates the atmosphere that you remember next time you hear the song. Tonight, that song for us was ‘True’ by Spandau Ballet.. which we were still singing after dinner all the way down the street and in the car ride back home. And to think before tonight we didn’t even know the name of the song :) Yay for old songs.
